There But For The Grace Of God Go I
Hadley/Miller
There but for the grace of God go I
Girl in a shop doorway
Wondering how she’ll eat today
Don’t ask how a person falls that far,
It’s just the way things are,
from the gutter to the stars
Life can turn upside down
In just a minute of a day
Snatched up by the wind
Spun round and blown away
Some days she can lose the will to live,
nobody takes the time
to stop and give,
Life isn’t the fairest thing, for sure…
She drew the shortest straw
can’t manage any more
Life can turn upside down
In just a minute of a day
Snatched up by – the wind
Spun round and blown away
Could have been me
So easily
Could have been you
You know it’s true
What the world needs now is some sympathy
[1st time] There..
but for the grace of God go I
[2nd time] There… but for a quirk of fate
There ...but for a random chance
There... but for the grace of God go I….
Heavens above…
…what was she thinking of?

On My Mind
Hadley
A]
You’re on my mind- Like a falling star…
Blazing through the sky, Leaving chaos
In its wake
It’s very hard Just to catch it right…
A sudden flash of light Before the sun sets
In the West.
B]
I get side-tracked easily, then
Try to catch up franticly,
So, after many years,
I have songs that no-one gets to hear…
A]
You’re in my dreams like an endless tune,
You won’t leave me alone, I guess I’ll have to
take you on…
And when you flow like the tide comes in,
You make a lot of sense, much more I than I could
ever do.
B]
If you felt like dropping round
I might show you what I found
And, in a little while,
We’ll revive a forgotten style-
That’s cool........(lay it down!)
Solos
B]
Maybe what I’m trying to say,
(In some strange post-modern way)
the future was in the past-
Now, coming back at last
To play…..yesterday!
On my mind (on my mind) all the time, all the time you’re on my mind (on my mind)
(all the time) all the time you’re on my mind
all the time (all the time) you’re on my….mind.

Green World
Hadley
I’m hoping for a Green world
where we respect the lives
of all the creatures great and small
I’m dreaming of a Green world
where we can drink the air
in forests growing strong and tall
The way we’re headed now is leading to destruction
the people in control are dealing in obstruction
Goodbye Sea, farewell to the jungle
Money talks, people just mumble
there’s still one last chance to revive & enhance
let’s all draw a line in the sand…
now it’s time for all the people to decide
upon a course of action , because it’s no longer just
a case of well-meaning liberal animal-lovers deciding to buy
their organic vegetables from the local farmers market,
this is serious, and if we don’t do something soon
there won’t be anything left to do anything about!
The way we’re headed now is leading to destruction
the people in control are dealing in obstruction
Goodbye Sea, farewell to the jungle
Money talks, people just mumble
there’s still one last chance to revive & enhance,
let’s all draw a line cos
we’re running out of time

Away With The Fairies
Hadley
Deep in the woods alone with the bluebells
I saw a rainbow form in front of my eyes - then
a dancer twirling around on a sunbeam
a perfume of strange foreign styles,
I strayed from the path and followed a bee-line
tried on the wings and started to fly - with
these new friends who seem so enchanting,
excuse me, while I kiss the Sky
Deep in a trance, I followed the piper
through a door in the tree, deep under the hill- where
we feasted on colourful potions
and tingled with dangerous thrills,
after a week, the fairies lost interest,
the magic was gone, and so I went home- but
my town had changed so completely,
grown old and grey the people I’d known-
Chorus
If you go away with the Fairies
Be sure that you’re on the right track
The trip’s not quite like in the brochure,
You may never find your way back….

The Note Whisperer
Hadley/Miller
Music
is a thing we make
but no-one knows
exactly what it’s for
Time to modulate
(to a minor key)
recapitulate
(to the opening theme)
what does it all mean?
Notes
can be difficult to
string together
in a pleasant way…
just like herding cats,
it’s frustrating that
they don’t stay in line
but leap up and down
‘til they get their way….
Few can master the art
of whispering to them
steering close to the wind
finding the perfect part.
Phil
had a way of speaking
wordlessly that
they could understand,
argued patiently
till they all agreed
to be organised
dressed in uniform
on a paper shore….
Few can master the art
of whispering to- them
steering close to the wind
writing the perfect chart.

Secret Island
Hadley
If you go to a place that I know
Far away from the mainstream
At the end of the road
And jump down on the sand…of
A shimmering island
Unmarked on the charts
But its here in my heart
It’s my own secret Island,
far far away
You can visit there with me,
just for the day
“No man is an island, entire of itself…
Every man is a piece of
The Continent,
- part of the Main…” [John Donne]
Avalon you may find in this song,
But you’re looking for meaning
Where it doesn’t belong
And now here comes the Twist,
It really exists
hiding there in the mist
when we make it to land
and step down on the sand,
washed by the sea,
It’s my own secret island
That no-one can see
[on reprise only] It’s my own secret island, far far away
you can visit there with me,
just for the day
It’s..my…own,
It’s..my…home,
Here’s a bit of curveball for you all:
It’s not really an island ….At all……

Sky
Monck/Miller/Hadley
Sky, wide all over lies
the land and all the lives
the laughter and the cries
unseen by urban eyes
Fly, Boeing through the sky
above me passing by,
the laughter and the cries
slowly over glides
White lines on the blue and gold
Green leaves
Peach to rose to crimson glow
Sun low

Amazonia
Words Jack Monck and Marc Hadley, melody Willem Jan Droog
Lion man, golden traveller from a distant land
it must have been planned
or it was only a spark or chance remark
from long ago
Amazonia, from your mountains to the plains I’ll travel
in your name
Island Queen, from your beaches of the whitest sand
I’ll lie and understand
flames of love in the dry daylight haze of autumn sun
Amazonia, from your mountains to the plains I’ll travel
in your name
Long ago I made my journey from the dreaming towers
of my home
Far away I had no choice but live my life in exile
from my soul….
